welcome, I’m kristy randall.
Thanks for stopping in; you are welcome here. By way of introduction, I will share a little about me on a personal level: My pronouns are she/her/hers and my ancestry is both northern European and Native American. I was bitten by the travel bug as a young child and I love exploring new places. I meditate every day and highly value cultivating presence, peace and joy. I live in southern California and love laughing with my family.
Professionally, during the first two years of my training as a therapist, I worked within our criminal justice system. In my second year I worked with young people who had committed a first crime and the system diverted them to me for therapy. My clients were in pain, depressed, anxious, scared, angry. After my training I knew I wanted to serve young people because I had seen how I could be a person in their life who saw them not only in their difficulties but who could see their gifts and strengths. I worked with kids who were talented artists, who made me laugh, who had sharp intellect, who had kind hearts, and it brought me joy to help them remember, or see this for the first time, in themselves. I had the opportunity in this connection to not only help them feel safe and seen, but I could also teach them new skills to cope in healthy ways with their difficulties. Later, I went to work for Rady Children’s Hospital Outpatient Psychiatry and became trained and experienced in helping children, youth and families successfully navigate symptoms related to anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, trauma, and many other presenting issues.
At Therapy & Coaching with Kristy, I work with young people typically 12-24 years old, and their parents, helping them identify what they want to address in therapy, letting them lead this process, and collaborating with them until they feel they have met their goals. I enjoy helping my clients find hope, learn about themselves, develop healthy skills and meet their own goals for their mental health. I am a certified mindfulness and mindful self-compassion teacher, so my approach is centered on learning how the mind works and how to skillfully work with thoughts and feelings as well as cultivate presence. In addition to mindfulness and self-compassion, I use Internal Family Systems, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as my primary approaches. I invite you to reach out to schedule a free consult with me so we can explore whether I am the right fit to meet your needs. Minors must be joined in the initial consult by their parent/legal guardian.
My style includes mindfulness, present moment awareness and inquiry; experiential body-based work; self-compassion; and an exploration and questioning of unhelpful thinking patterns and core beliefs. In our work together you will feel seen, heard, safe, encouraged and empowered.
I offer sessions via telehealth. If you live in or near Carlsbad, California, I also offer the option for nature-based, or “walk-and-talk,” therapy sessions that take place outdoors. Let me know if you are interested in that option and I will share more details.
My Approach
I am a therapist for young people ages 12-24 who need someone in their corner to deeply listen, really see them and who can offer helpful support and tools.
I offer an environment in which my clients feel safe enough to open up, both to me and to themselves, in order to see clearly, to learn and to grow.
Parents: I am here for you as well, to be your sounding board, and to help you connect to your deepest values and to heal whatever gets in the way of parenting in the way you want to.
